Watercolor Painting

The beauty of watercolor comes from its luminosity and transparency. With this online watercolor class you will be able to see up close as techniques such as various washes, negative painting and special effects are demonstrated. Several paintings of different subject matters will be completed as you explore and refine the techniques you've learned. Painting has been shown to calm the nervous system and release cortisol, so come relax and enjoy as you bring out the artistic side that you may not have known you had. This class will take place via Zoom. Login directions will be sent via email. Make sure that PPL has a current email address for you. Have the following supplies available: Watercolor paper: Arches 140 pound, Cold Press Watercolor Pad, 9 x 12 or 10 x 14 Support board that does not let water soak in. Suggestions: a Plexiglas sheet or a dry erase board or piece of foam core. Paint: Cadmium Light Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Rose Madder, Burnt Sienna, Indigo and Sap Green Brushes: Flat Brush 1 inch, #8 and #12 Round Brush, Rigger or Liner Brush Paint Pallet - with wells for each color and with large areas to do mixing Water Containers: 2 or 3 Masking Tape Notebook of Watercolor Paper: Cold Press, 140lb. 7x10 or larger. Suggested Supplies: Pencil - #2, an HB, or mechanical-pencil with a harder lead that does not smear. Paper towels and/or an old hand towel or washcloth Spray bottle Sponge: natural sea sponge is best hair dryer.

Candle Making 


Have you ever wondered how beautiful candles are made? Have you ever wanted to make fragrant, multicolored candles for yourself or friends? In this dynamic online workshop, students will learn virtually how to create unique candles to admire and share for far less than what they cost in stores. Students may be able to complete several candles and learn skills enabling them to continue their own through Zoom. The course will cover how to get started, types of candles, candle molds, adding fragrance and color, and materials and supply sources.

Creative Photography

This course emphasizes the art and creativity in the medium of photography. Through a series of topical assignments, you will be challenged to create interesting and unique images, which are then viewed and critiqued by the class. Often, you will be asked to share with the class how you went about creating an image. This is all done in a friendly and supportive fashion. Open to everyone who enjoys photography in either film or digital format. Class meets every other week.

Basic Digital Photography

Have you ever wondered what all those buttons on your digital camera actually do? Or how do you use directional light to enhance your photographs?

In this introductory class, learn how to effectively use the features of your digital camera to take sharper and more professional looking photos.

Each week, the instructor will guide you through various elements of photography including exposure, composition, lighting and color theory. Whether you love to photograph nature, landscapes, architecture or people, watch your photography skills improve throughout the class with weekly photo assignments for hands-on practice and immediate feedback.

You will need to have a digital SLR camera or a point-and-shoot camera with manual mode to use for the class.

Instructor Keith Bozeman has been a high school science teacher for
22 years, a nature photographer for 18 years and an avid outdoorsman for as long as he can remember. His work has been published in several nature calendars and magazines including Country Magazine and the Backpacker. He’s also shared his experience and expertise with multiple camera clubs and photography podcasts. In addition to teaching classes, Keith offers on-site photography workshops at national parks and forests across the southern region.

Watercolor for Everyone - Explorations

Back by popular demand, this class is a continuation of Watercolor for Everyone. Come and enjoy the creative process of painting. Build on your painting abilities and experiences through class exercises and watercolor techniques. Exercises will cover semi abstraction, negative space painting, and perfecting your compositional skills plus more. Mixed media will also be explored by using watercolor with other drawing and painting materials. Learn how to use this medium to express who you are as an artist.
